802.11g Mini Compact Flash Module with Antenna Connectors
The MCF10G provides all key Laird hardware and software capabilities in a miniaturized form factor designed specifically to support small and ergonomic ASDs. Based on the Compact Flash electronic interface, the MCF10G provides the benefit of small size with the convenience of a CF interface. This module delivers the superior Laird radio performance demanded by ASD vendors and their customers.

The MCF10G is certified for compliance to various CE, ETSI, FCC, and Industry Canada as well as certification to Wi-Fi Alliance Standards. The grants, approvals, and formal test reports associated with these certifications may be leveraged by Laird customers to achieve their required device certifications.
The degree to which consumers can leverage these Laird certifications is depedent upon the regulatory agency, industry body, and the type of end device. If any additional information or guidance is required, please contact Laird's wireless certifications group via email or by telephone at 330.434.7929.
In addition, Laird has secured a compliance certification in accordance with EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals (REACH).
The MCF10G has been tested for compliance to various CE and ETSI standards and specifications. The CE Declaration of Conformity can be found here:
These certifications were secured with the following configuration:
The formal compliance test reports for the various standards may be found here:
These formal test reports may be leveraged by mobile and portable device vendors as part of their self declaration to obtain the CE mark required by members of the European Union. ETSI/CE rules differ from those of the FCC and IC in that there is no provision for a modular approval. All approvals and certifications must exist at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.
Laird has obtained a Frequency Authority Certificate for the MCF10G in compliance with Annex IV procedures in article 10.5 of the R&TTE directive 99/5/EC and a Statement of Opinion in accordance with article 3 of that directive. Like all Laird Wi-Fi modules, the MCF10G is fully compliant with European Union Directive 2011/65/EU or Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as per our Declaration of Compliance.
EN 300 328 v.1.8.1, which officially goes into effect on January 2015, includes new mandatory spectrum sharing requirements with the goal of reducing interference within the 2.4 GHz band. The following are the two main ways to achieve this:
Due to this, these radios have issues with the CCA aspects of spectrum sharing. Although we have received an Adaptivity Statement for the BCM4318, this is the extent of the assistance we have received from Broadcom. Despite repeated requests to Broadcom over the past 12 months, we have not received test reports that support this compliance or firmware updates to fix the CCA issues.
Given the above, our customers with these products currently have the following options:
Laird has received the following FCC grant for the MCF10G (FCC identifier TWG-SDCMCF10G):
These grants were secured with the following configuration:
A data sheet for the above antenna is available upon request by contacting Laird's wireless certification group.
This grant is a Limited Modular Approval (LMA). Specific limitations are indicated on the grant:
Note: Laird test data may be leveraged by the device vendor to minimize the cost and time associated with the certification process.
The MCF10G is certified to the Industry Canada (IC) RSS-210 standard. IC 6616A-SDMCF10G certification is based on FCC certification testing, using the same antennas and transmit power and covering the same frequency bands. Test reports and data sheets relevant to this certification may be found in the FCC section above.
Laird has secured the following two MIC certifications:
These certifications were secured using a 0 dBi Omni antenna.
Device vendors may leverage these certifications and the associated test report when applying for MIC certifications at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.
Laird has submitted the MCF10G to an authorized Wi-Fi Alliance test lab and as a result has received an Embedded Client Certification for the following standards: 802.11b, 802.11g, WPA (both personal and enterprise), and WPA2/802.11i (both personal and enterprise). For those host devices which include the MCF10G, the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Wi-Fi Certified Embedded Client. The vendor need not be a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance to make this assertion but may not use the "Wi-Fi Certified" logo in conjunction with their device.
If the device vendor is a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, they may have WFA certification transferred to them only if they integrate the already-certified module into their device in a "hands off" manner; in other words, make no changes during integration that would impact the way in which the module operates. Laird will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue a Wi-Fi Alliance certification for their Laird Wi-Fi equipped devices.
Laird is a member of the Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) program and has a direct license from Cisco for intellectual property relating to the various versions of the CCX specifications. Laird has submitted the CF10G to an authorized CCX test lab and has been found to be fully compliant with version 4 of the CCX specifications for application specific devices (ASDs). For those host devices which include the CF10G and are using version 1.02.08 of the Summit Client Utility (SCU) and device driver (or later versions of each), the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Cisco Compatible radio module.

Device vendors who are members of the CCX program may also choose to secure CCX compliance for their end device. When incorporating the CF10G into their product with the above software version, the vendor need not be a direct licensee for Cisco intellectual property. Rather, in this case the device vendor need only submit their CF10G enabled device for CCX compliance testing to ther version 4 test plan for ASDs. By leveraging Laird's "pre-approved" Wi-Fi software and by testing to the same plan, the vendor has a greater assurance that their actual testing will result in an end device compliance. Laird will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue CCX compliance for their Laird Wi-Fi equipped devices.
