The Laird SSD45N radio module which supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards via an SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) interface. The radio operates in unlicensed portions of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequency spectrum. The device is compliant with IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n standards using Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The device supports all 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n data rates and automatically adjusts data rates and operational modes based on various environmental factors.

When operating on channels in the UNII-2 and UNII-2 Extended bands that are in the 5GHz portion of the frequency spectrum and are subject to Dynamic Frequency Selection requirements, the SSD45N fully conforms to applicable regulatory requirements. In the event that specified types of radar are detected by the network infrastructure, the SSD45N fully conforms to commands from the infrastructure for radar avoidance.

The SSD45N is a System in Package (SiP) Quad Flat pack, No leads (QFN) module. The device is based on the Qualcomm Atheros AR6003X chip which is an integrated device providing a Media Access Controller (MAC), a Physical Layer Controller (baseband or BB processor), and fully integrated dual-band radio transceiver. To maximize operational range, the SSD45N incorporates external 2.4 and 5 GHz power amplifiers (PA) to increase transmit power. The frequency stability for both 2.4 GHz (802.11b and 802.11g) and 5 GHz (802.11a) operation is +/- 20 ppm. The SSD45N has its own RF shielding and does not require shielding provided by the host device into which it is installed in order to maintain compliance with applicable regulatory standards. As such, the device may be tested in a standalone configuration via an extender card.

The device buffers all data inputs so that it will comply with all applicable regulations even in the presence of over-modulated input from the host device. Similarly, the SSD45N incorporates power regulation to comply with all applicable regulations even when receiving excess power from the host device.

The SSD45N combines the 2.4 and 5 GHz signal path to signal U.FL type antenna connectors to support dual band transmission and receive. An antenna diversity function is NOT supported in this product. Supported host device antenna types include dipole and monopole antennas.

Regulatory operational requirements are included with this document and may be incorporated into the operating manual of any device into which the SSD45N is installed. The SSD45N is designed for installation into mobile devices such as vehicle mount data terminals (which typically operate at distances greater than 20 cm from the human body) and portable devices such as handheld data terminals (which typically operate at distances less than 20 cm from the human body).

These formal test reports may be leveraged by mobile and portable device vendors as part of their self declaration to obtain the CE mark required by members of the European Union. ETSI/CE rules differ from those of the FCC and IC in that there is no provision for a modular approval. All approvals and certifications must exist at the device level rather than the module (radio) level.

The SSD45N is fully compliant with Annex IV procedures in article 10.5 of R&TTE directive 99/5/EC.

Like all Laird Wi-Fi modules, the SSD45N is fully compliant with European Union Directive 2011/65/EU or Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as per our Declaration of Compliance.

Laird has received the following FCC grants for the SSD45N (FCC Identifier: SQG-SSD45N).

FCC Part 15.247 Subpart C

This grant relates to operation in the 2.412 to 2.462 GHz (ISM) and 5.745 to 5.805 GHz (UNII-3) frequency bands.

FCC Part 15.407 Subpart E

These grant relates to operation in the 5.180 to 5.240 GHz (UNII-1), 5.280 to 5.320 GHz (UNII-2), and 5.500 to 5.700 GHz (UNII-2 Extended) frequency bands.

Note: When using this grant, the SSD45N must be installed only in mobile devices. Mobile devices are devices which typically operate at distances greater than 20 cm (7.9 inches) from the human body. When certifying portable devices (those that typically operate at distances less than 20 cm from the human body), a new grant must be secured by the device vendor.




Industry Canada

The Laird SSD45N is certified to the Industry Canada (IC) RSS-210 standard.  3147A-SSD45N, based on FCC certification testing, using the same antennas and transmit power and covering the same frequency bands.




Wi-Fi Alliance

Laird has submitted the SSD45N to an authorized Wi-Fi Alliance test lab and as a result has received an Embedded Client Certification for the following standards: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, WPA (both personal and enterprise), and WPA2/802.11i (both personal and enterprise). For those host devices which include the SSD45N, the vendor may assert that their device incorporates a Wi-Fi Certified Embedded Client. The vendor need not be a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance to make this assertion but may not use the "Wi-Fi Certified" logo in conjunction with their device.

If the device vendor is a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, they may have WFA certification transferred to them only if they integrate the already-certified module into their device in a "hands off" manner; in other words, make no changes during integration that would impact the way in which the module operates. Laird will provide consultative services to those vendors who choose to pursue a Wi-Fi Alliance certification for their Summit-equipped devices.

Warranty Statement

Laird Technologies warrants to the original end user customer of its products that its products are free from defects in material and workmanship. Subject to the conditions and limitations set forth below, Laird Technologies will, at its option, either repair or replace any part of its products that prove defective by reason of improper workmanship or materials. Repaired parts or replacement products will be provided by Laird Technologies on an exchange basis, and will be either new or refurbished to be functionally equivalent to new. If Laird Technologies is unable to repair or replace the product, it will refund the current value of the product at the time the warranty claim is made.

This limited warranty does not cover any damage to this product that results from improper installation, accident, abuse, misuse, natural disaster, insufficient or excessive electrical supply, abnormal mechanical or environmental conditions, or any unauthorized disassembly, repair, or modification. This limited warranty also does not apply to any product on which the original identification information has been altered, obliterated or removed, has not been handled or packaged correctly, has been sold as second-hand or has been resold.

This limited warranty covers only repair, replacement or refund for defective Laird Technologies products, as provided above. Laird Technologies is not liable for, and does not cover under warranty, any loss of data or any costs associated with determining the source of system problems or removing, servicing or installing Laird Technologies products. This warranty excludes 3rd party software, connected equipment or stored data. In the event of a claim, Laird Technologies' sole obligation shall be replacement of the hardware.

Duration

This limited warranty applies only to the original end user customer of the product. This limited warranty is non-transferable. This limited warranty is in force for the useful lifetime of the original end product into which the Laird Technologies product is installed. Useful lifetime of the original end product may vary but is not to exceed five (5) years from the original date of the end product purchase. Any repair, component replacement or modification to the original product constitutes the end of the lifetime of the end product as defined here.

Eligibility

Warranty on Laird Technologies products are only applicable if the parts were purchased from Laird Technologies authorized OEMs/distributors/resellers or directly from Laird Technologies.

Limitations

The following parts are not covered by this warranty:

  • Products without the label containing Laird Technologies' serial number or MAC address
  • Products that are purchased from other end users
  • Products that Laird Technologies determines were not purchased through Laird Technologies authorized OEMs/distributors/resellers or directly from Laird Technologies
  • All EOL claims to return back to point of purchase or respective distributors.
