An object-oriented program is viewed not as a conventional program, with a list of subroutines to perform, but as a collection of objects. Each object has instructions for the data it contains in order to ensure the data is used properly. Not all data is accessible globally through OOP; some packets must be accessed through functions written specifically for that purpose. These functions, called methods, are bundled with the data they supply.
OOP helps programmers avoid rewriting modules when adding new data since each object can inherit the features of the other objects in the program.
